Week 2

For week 2 I made a small spike to practice carving the specific type of wood. It was very hard to cut through and took a while to make the shape I wanted. The handle turned out really pretty and had cool swirls. I will attempt to make more things with the willow wood but I will not use it as my main type anymore.

Week 1

For week 1 I made a simple worry stick. I did it to practice my knife skills and to learn how the wood carved. I also gathered some different types of wood to have different patterns. The worry stick was pretty easy to make and didn’t require to much control, but the wood dried weird a wapred because I bent it accidently.

Change in plan

I decided to change my project idea because of multiple reasons. The first most promenent reason was because the materials were to hard to find and I needed a lot. I also didn’ t like how the work was progressing because it was taking up to much of my time outside of other things as it took too long to dry. I chose to switch to wood wittling which has always interested me. I made up for the first few weeks by making multiple projects.

week 1 and 2

For my first creation I did something really easy just to know how paper mache worked. I made a very simple bowl that was molded on a normal bowl. It was very fragile and I realized I didn’t add enough glue. It ripped very easily which I think is also because there wasn’t enough layers of paper.

For my second creation, I was trying some armiture styles. The first one I did was using tinfoil which did not work very well. The paper did not stick very well and kept falling off. The second one I tried was styrofoam which worked a little better but still didn’t work very well when it was standing upright. I found its easier to use something as a mold and the peel it off when its dry. I will start with the paste next week.

New genius hour

This time I have decided to do something targeting my crafty side. I was watching a video where someone made a mushroom hat out of paper mache and I thought it would be really cool to do. There is paper mache where you use paper usually newspaper because its thinner and glue. I will start with that but I also want to try another method where its more of a paste and the paper is ripped up really small. For my end project I want to make armour out of the paper mache. I will do smaller, easier projects to build up my skills. My parents have already agreed that I can take up space with my project as we already do lots of art projects. I will start with regular paper mache and make easy things like bowls and masks.

End evaluation

I think my presentation went pretty well. I had written a script but it ended up printing too small, so I went off sctript and just wung it. The little cookies I made were a good idea and they transported nicley. I was glad I chose to jst bring the icing and ice them at school. This way I could bring more but still in a smaller container. Overall I think this project was really fun and I’m excited for the next one. I think I’m going to do something a little more arts and craft type thing because that is also something that I really enjoy.

March 1

week 13

I made tiny tiramisu cookies to bring in for the presentation. They were pretty easy to make because they were a very simple cookie and then the icing was pretty easy to make. There was nothign very excited about them so I dont have much to report on. They tasted very good and most people enjoyed them.

week 12

This week I tried to contact an expert but it is proving to be harder than expected. I emailed four different places and got no responses back. Some of the places I was looking at there was no phone to call. I called two places, one of which was the Tiramisu Bistro on whyte ave. The other place did not have an option for how to get advice. The only other way was to get a tour but they cost too much money. The Tiramisu Bistro answered my call and told me to come in person and they might be able to help me. The days they told me to come in were days that I was unable to go. I will keep looking around but I am running out of time.

Week 11

Now that I did the regular cheesecake I was ready to try the tiramisu cheesecake. I was suprised to find that there was gelatine in them which was supposed to help them hold their shape. The gelatine made them slightly gummy and the texture was unsettling to eat. They tasted pretty good otherwise and turned out nicely. They set differently than the regular cheesecake and even if they seemed unset they were done. I did not get a picture of them but this was the picture witht the recipe.

week 10

This week I made regular non baked cheese cake to figure out what it is supposed to look like. I decided to make mini cheesecakes to limit the amount of ingredients I needed. Some of them turned out odd and mishaped because I didn’t smooth them done. I also learned that putting them in the freezer worked better than when they went in the fridge because it set them better. They turned out pretty nice and were best served with some sort of jam.
